The Yoga Experiment

Donielle received specialized training in Yoga Therapy in Cancer and Chronic Illness (YCat) at the Integral Yoga Institute of New York. Read her story here.

There are different types of yoga and there is something for everyone at any level of fitness or flexibility. Donielle highly recommends the following types of Yoga for those living with a chronic illness:

Restorative Yoga- a series of completely passive, supported postures aimed at relaxation and turning on the parasympathetic nervous system. It’s like a vacation for your mind and body!

Yin Yoga- long holds, deep stretches of your connective tissues.

Vinyasa Yoga- a series of postures that link breath with movement, there is really no part of the body left untouched. Beginners should start with a Vinyasa Basics class.

Iyengar Yoga- postures practiced with focus on correct alignment by using props. This style of Yoga is great when you need a few modifications because of body ailments.
